Laboratory for Floating Structures and Mooring Systems belongs to the School of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering of the National Technical University of Athens. It is located in the University Campus in Athens, Greece. It is an educational and research institution that can participate to research and developments projects, while it can also by law provide services to the industry and SME’s. The institute has established in 1988 and its main activities are related to the basic and applied research on the analysis and design of moored floating structures (hydrodynamics, structural, load effect analysis), including among others offshore wind turbines (fixed and / or floating), multi – purpose floating structures’ concepts for the combined offshore wind and wave energy sources exploitation, floating breakwaters, etc.. It has been primary contractor and / or partner is a series of European and Greek funded research projects related to the above research areas.


What we offer

We are offering innovative semi-analytical solutions methods and tools for the coupled hydro-aero-elastic analysis of offshore W/T concepts, including floating solutions.
Our area of expertise is related to the development of experimentally validated numerical methods and tools for the analysis of floating W/T concepts and multi - purpose floating structures.
The type of service that is being offered is dealing with support of engineering analysis of floating W/T, including floater's hydrodynamics, aerodynamics of the W/T and analysis of mooring systems, through the use of own computational tools and software.
The later is particular useful in cases of multi - cylinder floating supporting structures, as it makes use of analytical solutions to provide fast engineering solutions in the early design stages.
